Unfortunate Motors lose on penalties to Altrincham

National League Altrincham edge past Vauxhall Motors 2-0 on penalties.

The match ended 1-1, after a late equaliser from Bobbie McDonnell.

Altrincham showed their higher league status early on by settling on the ball. Two quick corners awarded to the away side, but the Motors defended them well.

The away side were set to play from the back; however, the Motors pressed the ball which resulted in Conor Harwood running the keeper out for a goal kick.

A line breaking pass again from Oyedele. A low cross into the box cleared behind for a corner.

The National league side have the goal all their possession suggests. The following corner comes into the middle and theMmotors keeper fails to claim, its knocked in by Conor Harwood.

Vauxhall looked to respond from going behind, McDonnell whistles a shot from outside the area straight at the keeper.

The visitors held the on to possession nicely. Dinanga turns and out strengthens Marcus James to drive forward. The lay off to Gyasi is kept out by Corran.

Triple change at half time, German, Baines, and Jordan all being introduced for Altrincham.

Vauxhall came out set to undo the damage from going behind in the first half, some good possession ends in a foul on Gyasi.

Joe Brandon drives at the defence of the away side and with a turn of pace is pulled back for a free kick on the edge of the box. The free kick straight into the wall.

The home side made their changes as Deer, Buckley and Burkey entered the pitch.

Final changes for the visitors as Hulme and Billingsley came on for Dinanga and Gyasi.

The motors find their equaliser. The ball fell kindly for unmanned McDonnell in the box who slotted it past the keeper, out of his reach.

A frantic half brings the game to an end level at 1-1. Both sides searched for a winner, but neither could produce, it was straight to penalties.

Buckley slipped to fire wide and goal scorer McDonnell puts his spot kick over the bar. Both Burkey and Deer saw their penalties saved by the away keeper.

Despite Corran’s best efforts to save two penalties, the Motors crash out of the cup in a shoot out once again with a 2-0 defeat.

Vauxhall return to league action this Saturday away to Prestwich Heys for a 3pm kick-off.
