Motors Rampant in New Year Goal Fest

VAUXHALL MOTORS  5,  ALSAGER TOWN   0.

The Motormen began the New Year with a thumping victory over Alsager, but the scoreline hardly does justice to the visitors who made a game of it for the first hour.

Indeed, after visiting keeper Jim Hawkins saved well early on from Ben Holmes, Alsager almost took the lead on 18 minutes when Tom Brown’s shot was only partial saved by Kristofer Leigh in the Motors goal, the ball cannoning off the top of the bar.  Two minutes later, the hosts took the lead when Dave Webb’s second cross from the left was turned in by skipper Tom Mitchell from close in.  Matty Carlin went close to doubling that lead, his near post header going just wide but then Alsager went close twice through Tyler Savage and Ryan Goodwin before the break.

On the resumption, it was still fairly even but on 63 minutes, Motors edged further in front, when a great cross by Haydn Cooper was chested down by Webb beyond the far post.  His shot was saved but the ball fell inviting for Karl Noon to fire home the rebound.  Ten minutes later the game was put beyond Alsager with a third Motors goal.  Substitute Kieran Hamm fired a shot towards goal and Noon was on hand to turn it over the line from close range.

On 83 minutes it became 4-0 when a shot by Cooper fell for Mitchell, who calmly fired home via a deflection.  And four minutes later, Damase Kiwanda, on as a substitute for Joe Brandon, struck a sweet fifth from ten yards out to complete the scoring.  Even after that, Hamm went close to scoring a sixth before the final whistle.

Motors are at home again next Saturday (12th) when Stone Dominoes are the visitors to the Syncreon Arena.
