Motors beat 1874 in Friendly Fixture

Vauxhall Motors beat 1874 Northwhich 6-1 in a mid-season friendly at The VanEupen Arena on Tuesday Night.

It was a chance for Mick McGraa’s Men to get back to winning ways before returning to league action as they were beaten 1-0 away at Winsford United last Saturday.

New signing Jake Parker got more minutes in midfield as Liam Turner made his first appearance since picking up an injury on Boxing Day.

There was a balanced start to the game as both sides showed their ability to work up from the back.

The Motormen’s Ben Dufton-Kelly opened the scoreline with a header inside the six yard box, Ben Holmes set the defender up with a header after a good cross was put into the box.

The hosts were playing well, winger Michael Burkey outworking Northwich’s backline before firing a shot towards goal.

And the second would be added before half time, Buckley using his muscle and trickery to get the best of his marker. This effort firing past the keeper.

Northwitch reduced the defecit before the whistle blew. It was an own goal forced by a good cross from the right.

At the break Turner came on for full-back Ethan Gouldbourne, making his first appearance since Boxing Day as he got injured against AFC Liverpool.

The Motormen struck two in quick succession from corners at the start of the second half, Tom Mitchell netted before Dufton-Kelly got his second of the evening, to extend the lead.

They would strike a further two in quick succession when Buckley fired the ball into the bottom corner after good play on the left and Conor Harwood found the sixth from the spot.

Vauxhall are back in league action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Burscough FC away from home.
