Last Gasp Winner for UTD

VAUXHALL MOTORS 0 v 1 SANDBACH UNITED

For second Saturday running, Vauxhalls were hit by a crucial 90th minute goal, this one condemning them to a rare home defeat.  But in truth, they can have few complaints about this latest setback, as the visitors grew in confidence as the game wore on.

But clubs were without their top scorers and it showed for a great deal of this stalemate.  Motors cause was not helped by the subsequent loss of ever-present Danny Cross in the 33rd minute through injury but after this, Karl Noon brought a great save out of the Sandbach keeper Ryan Moss just before the interval.  But on the resumption, the hosts found it difficult to penetrate the visitor’s feisty rearguard and when Tom Quinn was dismissed for an elbowing offence on 73 minutes, the visitors were already enjoying the lions’ share of the game.

Both Jordan Davies and Chris Roundtree had gone close for Sandbach before Damase Kiwanda tried his luck at the other end.  Motors survived another scare late on when Roundtree’s shot took a deflection and went just inches wide of the goal.  But just when it seemed as if Motors were going to ride their luck and gain a goalless draw, a cross from the left fell inviting for Davies who made no mistake from eight yards out to clinch a last-minute winner.
