Holmes appointed as Motors boss

Vauxhall Motors Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Holmes as the club’s new First Team Manager.

Holmes, an experienced coach around the North West, arrives at the VanEupen Arena after an illustrious playing career.

Born in Birkenhead in 1989, the 34-year-old started his career at the Academy of Tranmere Rovers, where he signed his first professional deal in 2007.

After spells at Southport and The New Saints, Holmes returned to Prenton Park in 2011 and stayed there for 4 years – making a further 133 appearances, contributing four goals from the defence.

Danny has also represented Newport County, AFC Fylde, York City, Bangor City and Connah’s Quay Nomads as a professional footballer.

The new Motors boss is also the founder of Elite Player Development, a private coaching company based in Woodchurch, Wirral, where he and his team are at the forefront of developing young footballers with their coaching sessions.

Holmes, when speaking in an exclusive interview to the VMFC Media team commented, “I’m delighted to be appointed First Team Manager. I will be getting to work straight away to improve the team collectively and individually. We have amazing potential to reach our objectives for this season and beyond, I will leave no stone unturned. I can’t wait to get going.”

Chairman Jon Waring added, “We’re delighted to bring in Danny as the new First Team Manager.
From our first meeting I could sense Danny’s drive and ambition to succeed.

Following the departure of Mick McGraa the committee wanted someone who could take the reigns and move the First Team forward.

During the recruitment process, we established that Danny was our first-choice candidate and we’re delighted to get this deal over the line.

Welcome to Danny, and we wish him and his backroom staff the very best of luck for the upcoming games.”

We would like to thank Joe Heath, Simon Thelwell, Phil Marsh, and the rest of the backroom staff for their contributions and for taking over the First Team on an interim basis for the last 4 weeks.

Holmes will also bring in former Motors player Glenn Rule as Assistant Manager. Rule brings a wealth of experience as an ex-professional, featuring for Chester FC and Stockport County, amongst many other sides.

We would also like to thank all applicants.  All were of high quality and made the decision process challenging.

Holmes will be in the dugout for his first outing on Saturday afternoon as Clitheroe visits the VanEupen Arena in the Northern Premier League Division One West.
