Motors knock spots off Dominoes

VAUXHALL MOTORS  5 v 0 STONE DOMINOES

Vauxhall cruise to another five-goal victory, as Webb claims a hat-trick

For the third home game on the run, Vauxhall Motors struck five goals, but on this occasion it could well have been a lot more, as the basement club Stone provided little threat and were dominated by the host club from the first to last whistle.

It took the Motormen just five minutes to grab the lead, a sweet drive from Dave Webb latching on to a poor defensive clearance, from just outside the area.  Three minutes later it was 2-0, as debutante Lewis Willingham put Ben Holmes clear on the right and he too finished in style.  Willingham was denied a debut goal, ruled out for offside as Motors continued to press forward but no further goals came in that opening half.

On the resumption, Joe Brandon saw one shot palmed away by visiting keeper Reece Quinn, while he almost set up Karl Noon moments later, only for the keeper to once again thwart the shot. Substitute Kieran Hamm also went close twice within minutes of his introduction from the bench.  Motors finally added a third on 72 minutes, when free kick specialist Webb produced another set piece gem.

Three minutes later, Holmes set up Hamm for the fourth from the right hand side of the box and a further three minutes after that, Brandon was fouled inside the box and up stepped Webb to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.  Home keeper Kristofer Leigh had precious little to do throughout the entire game!

Ironically, this victory for Mick McGraa’s side still leaves them trailing the leaders by six points in sixth place, but next Saturday, Motors travel to the top club Rylands, hoping to inflict a defeat upon the Warrington-based club to further their own hopes of climbing up the table.
