Holmes’ Vauxhalls face Prescot on Friday evening

Vauxhall Motors travel to high-flying Prescot Cables on Friday night as they aim to claim their first points of the new year.

It has been a tricky start to 2024 for Danny Holmes’ side as a heavy away defeat at City Of Liverpool on New Years Day was followed up by a defeat to Chasetown on Saturday.

The Chase netted early at the VanEupen Arena with a brilliant strike from the edge of the area by Jordan Evans that sunk into the bottom corner and they continued to frustrate Holmes’ men who looked to get themselves back into the tie.

New keeper Jack Atkinson, signed from City of Liverpool the day before, produced a brilliant double save in the second half to keep his side in the game with twenty minutes left on the clock.

Holmes spoke highly about him post match whilst also explaining why he believes his side will be well motivated ahead of the trip to promotion chasers Prescot.

“Jack (Atkinson) is a confident lad, he talks really well and he’s good at kicking.”

“We’ve shown that our best results are against the better teams in the division and it’s up to the players to do that again as I won’t change (following the recent defeats)”.
