Motors beaten by Hanley

By Ethan Hoijord

Vauxhall Motors were beaten 2-0 on Tuesday night, as they played host to Hanley Town at The VanEupen Arena.

The Motormen were looking to claim back-to-back wins following their victory on the weekend away at Stalybridge Celtic.
However, two Hanley goals in the second half ensured that the visitors took all three points back home.

There was an early period of pressure by Danny Holmes’ side as striker Craig Curran fired over the crossbar from a corner before defender Bobby Beaumont headed wide.

However, the momentum would soon change as Hanley forward Kieran Brown had two chances to edge his side in front. He first chipped the ball over the crossbar before heading over from inside the six yard box. The tie would remain goalless at the break.

Hughes gifted the visitors a brilliant chance to open the scoring, early into the second half, as his miss kick went straight into their direction, leaving the visitors with an open goal to shoot at. However, the effort somehow stayed out.

It was all Hanley as Brown was once again involved in the action, he drove through the Vauxhall backline to go one on one with Hughes but the young goalkeeper stayed big to make a great save.

Brown’s goal would eventually come, on the 70th minute mark, as his looping header sinked into the back of the net after a fantastic cross was placed in by Lucas Baker.

A great block by Vauxhall defender Adam Hughes stopped the visitors extending their lead straight away. However, Brown would add the second of the evening five minutes before the whistle blew for full time.

Vauxhall are back in action on Saturday as they host Nantwich Town whilst Hanley Town play host to Kidsgrove Athletic.
