Motors face Clitheroe in first game of the new era

Danny Holmes’ first game as manager of Vauxhall Motors brings a challenge against high-flying Clitheroe this Saturday at The VanEupen Arena.

The former Tranmere Rovers full-back and founder of Elite Player Development was officially appointed on Monday morning.

It is his first managerial role, however EPD has been greatly successful in coaching youngsters based on The Woodchurch in The Wirral.

Holmes, taking over from interim boss Joe Heath, will work alongside his assistant Glenn Rule.

Chairman Jon Waring spoke highly of his new man “We’re delighted to bring in Danny as the new First Team Manager. From our first meeting I could sense Danny’s drive and ambition to succeed.”

High-flying Clitheroe, managed by Danny Caldecott, are positioned second in the league after winning six of their opening eleven encounters thus will provide a great challenge in Ellesmere Port.

Nicknamed The Blues, Clitheroe were formed in 1877.
Manager. The club are currently searching for a new boss whilst Richie Baker is in interim position.
Ground. Shawbridge. It has a capacity of 2000.
2022-23. Finished 4th.
2023-24 so far. Positioned 2nd, one point off Kidsgrove Athletic in first, they have won six of their opening eleven games.
Top scorer. Sefton Gonzalez and John McGrath have both fired in seven this season, Vauxhalls defence could be in for a busy afternoon.
Honours. After Clitheroe FC were reformed in 1890 they won the Lancashire Cup in 1892.
