VAUXHALL MOTORS 0, FC OSWESTRY TOWN 0.
If the Motormen ran amok on Saturday on the opening day of the Hallmark Security League, this was a completely different kettle of fish! Mick McGraa’s side began this contest on the front foot and just like Saturday, created a few openings early on without taking the initiative.
The youthful visitors then turned the tables on their hosts leading up to the interval, netting a decent header from the far post only to be judged offside, before home keeper John Lynch produced a great save with his legs to deny their inrushing wide man.
For most of the second half, it was a battle between Motors front line and the visitors defence, but full credit to the Shropshire side who remained steadfast in pursuit of a favourable result. Indeed, they were well-organised, strong and effective and looked very much the part of a leading side in this division.
Just once in the final 45 minutes did Motors really threaten the visitors goal, only for Saturday’s two-goal hero Ben Holmes to screw his shot wide having rounded the keeper, albeit there were defenders on the line to protect the goal.
So a somewhat disappointing result even with a clean sheet for Motors but credit to FC Oswestry Town – they deserved a share of the spoils for their endeavours and will be a match for most sides in this league.
