Motors off to a flying start

NEW MILLS  1,  VAUXHALL MOTORS  4

Vauxhall Motors got off to a perfect start to their new life in the Hallmark Security League, defeating Derbyshire hosts New Mills thanks to three goals in the final 20 minutes with a performance that suggests that Mick McGraa’s side are to something good.

From the first whistle, Motors created three good openings inside the first ten minutes, and they finally took the lead 4 minutes before the interval when the impressive Ben Greenop set up Ben Holmes who finished smartly with a right foot shot into the bottom left corner.  That advantage however was wiped out ten minutes into the second half when the Millers ground out an equalised at the back post through Carlos Meakin.

But there was no denying the visitors as they moved up a gear regaining the lead on 72 minutes when an initial shot from Greenop was blocked by the home keeper only for Danny Cross to latch on to the loose ball and fire into the roof of the net. Eight minutes later it became 3-1 as Joe Brandon crossed to the far post where Holmes netted with a diving header and just five minutes later the victory was made secure when substitute Greg Drummond ended another fine Motors move with a right foot shot beyond the reach of the home keeper.

A tremendous all round performance including that of Motors keeper Matty Lavelle who pulled off a good few tip-over saves when called upon, especially from set pieces.

Vauxhall will be hoping to build upon that superb result at home to FC Oswestry Town on Tuesday evening at 7.45pm at the Syncreon Arena before going East once more on Saturday to face Cheadle Town.
