VAUXHALL MOTORS U18 3 VICTORIA COLTS U18 1
Match Report | By Ethan Hoijord
Les Scott’s Vauxhall Motors U18s beat Victoria Colts 3-1 at The VanEupen Arena, Josh Jeffery sealing the game with two goals in the latter stages after a Denny McHugh goal.
The Motormen started the game in a fast, bright manner as they applied pressure to the visitors backline.
However, the defence remained resilient as the attacks came to nothing but corners, in which the goalkeeper caught.
As the hosts were up the pitch, Colts produced a couple of counter attacks but their efforts were fired above the bar.
The visitors were close to going in front when a great delivery from the right was headed out, before it was met by the attacker who had raced into the box.
Jakub Brzostowski came on as the half time break approached, livening the front line up with some great play.
It was The Colts that started the second half strongly, looking to find fortune on the left.
Yet Scott’s side were able to showcase their talent when a fantastic shot from just outside the box went close to the top corner but for a great save.
The deadlock was opened on the hour mark through Motors’ Denny McHugh.
The ball broke loose from the right before being passed into the centre where Jeffrey beat his man before slotting comfortably into the bottom corner.
The scoreline was soon doubled after a poor pass was received in midfield, it was a fantastically skilful move that brought the ball to the feet of the attacker who slotted well and low to the keepers left.
Colts soon got themselves back in the game from a corner, the goalscorer beating his man with a good header at the back post.
However, the match was rounded off in the final few moments with a powerful strike inside the area by Josh Jeffery.
It was a well-deserved victory by Scott’s hard working youth side who are next in action against Rainhill reserves, in the cup.
