Vauxhall Motors are back in action this Saturday afternoon, after their midweek win against Congleton Town, as they host Lancashire based side Squires Gate.

Luke Evans’ Gate are currently placed ninth in the division as they have won four and lost five of their opening ten outings. Their biggest away win was at Litherland Remyca as they beat them 2-0 in mid August.

Nathan Cliffe is The Blues’ top scorer with eight in eight appearances and has scored three in the last two games. Theodore Ball and James Boyd have each netted three this campaign thus, just like Motors, Evans’ side are certainly effective on the attack.

Gate were founded in 1948 as Squires Gate British Legion and play at The Brian Addison Stadium.

Addison is a club stalwart who has been involved with Squires Gate FC for almost 60 years and told The Blackpool Gazette how he felt ‘humbled’ and ‘proud’ when the stadium was named after him in 2017.

The highest recorded attendance here is 600 as Everton visited in July 1995 and their last three achievements include winning the NWCL Division Two Trophy in 2002, being the runners up in that division four years earlier and winning the Richardson Cup in 1987.

John Maguire is secretary of The Blues and had a day to remember on Easter Monday 2019 when Gate visited Charnock Richard.

A few days short of his 60th birthday, he came on as a substitute for Gate in the game at Mossie Park – over 41 years since he made his first appearance as a player for the club.

Nothing similar to this can be promised this weekend however with both team’s in good goalscoring form you can expect goals! All support for Mick McGraa’s side is appreciated, as always, at The VanEupen Arena.
