Following Vauxhall Motors’ away victory to Swallownest in the FA Vase first round, Mick McGraa’s side are back at The VanEupen Arena on Bank Holiday Monday in NWCFL Premier action as they face Burscough.
The Green Army finished 7th in the division last season and are currently 19th with their sole win of the season being away to Padiham.
Burscough are managed by both Craig Davies and Todd Blayney and their top goalscorer this campaign is Edward Servuts with three goals in five games.
Davies and Blayney’s side were founded in 1946 and the club’s current president is Rod Cottam. It has been 46 games since their last goalless draw, thus the Bank Holiday event is expected to be greatly contested with many goals.
The Green Army have some former notable players with Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman playing for the club between 1983-84, Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe playing for the club between 1999-2000 and Lee Trundle who scored 78 in 146 for Swansea City playing for the club in 1995.
Burscough F.C’s last two honours include winning the Northern Premier League Premier Division in 2007 which came in the same year as their Lancashire Junior Cup win.
However, arguably the club’s greatest day came before this as they were crowned FA Trophy champions in 2003, beating Tamworth 2-1, live on Sky. 15,000 people were in attendance that day at Villa Park.
All support for Mick McGraa’s side is appreciated, thus we look forward to seeing you at The VanEupen Arena.
