Following the midweek home win against West Didsbury and Chorlton, Vauxhall Motors are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host FC Isle Of Man.
The Ravens were founded in 2019 but played their first ever league game against Maine Road on July 21st 2021 and this resulted in a 1-1 draw as Frank Jones scored the club’s first competitive goal.
There was opposition to FC IOM becoming affiliated with the IOM FA as there were fears that the club would be able to cherry-pick the best players from teams around the island and other clubs losing out on potential spectators.
To ease this concern, FC IOM kick off its games in the later slot of 18:30 to avoid any potential clash with the local league.
The club, who are managed by Chris Bass play their home games at The Bowl in Douglas and this has been nicknamed “The Bernabowl” with its capacity of 3,500.
Bass is the former gaffer of St Georges, who he managed for over 30 years during which time he won 13 League Titles.
FC IOM are owned by the local community, funded by the sale of various memberships which offer exclusive benefits, including early and discounted access to match day and season ticket sales.
They were promoted to the NWCFL Premier after winning the Play-Offs in the Summer of 2022, West Didsbury and Chorlton won the league.
The Ravens’ record goalscorer is Sean Doyle with 41 goals and the club’s home strip is the colours of red, white and black with their away games played in blue and white.
Going into Saturday’s game, Chris Bass’ side are placed 10th after winning two and losing one of their opening three games as they were victorious against Ashton and Litherland Remyca.
However, with Mick McGraa’s Motors winning all four of their opening games they will be heading into this tie with great optimism.
All support for the Motors is appreciated thus we look forward to seeing you down at The VanEupen Arena!
