Avro 0-1 Vauxhall Motors – Match Report

Avro 0-1 Vauxhall Motors
By Ethan Hoijord
Vauxhall Motors travelled to Avro looking to maintain the good form that they had been on, returning to Ellesmere Port with all three points.
The hosts, managed by Alex Frost, were on top throughout the opening stages. Captain Tom Mitchell kept the game level with a great piece of defensive work as Avro were through on goal.
Food sold at the Vestacare Stadium was turned relatively famous this week as it was shared around Twitter. However, Frost’s side saw themselves biting back at the referee who failed to award them a penalty on the 20th minute mark.
Damien Eastham ensured that the game was level going into half time with a fantastic double save and it wouldn’t take too long for frustrations to boil over when Kane Wallworth saw red for a bad challenge.
The dismissal seemed to incite further anger across the pitch as when both sides were walking back to their dressing rooms for half time, a scuffle broke out which saw Eastham being sent off having appeared to shove an Avro player as comments were exchanged.
With no goalkeeper on the bench, Jordan Deer was replaced by Simon Thelwell who would go in goal and Marcus Jones would come on for Ben Dufton-Kelly who seemed to have picked up a slight injury.
The necessary changes were successful as Thelwell had a fantastic half, showcasing his keeping abilities with two good saves as he kept a clean sheet before Greg Drummond scored the decisive goal with a deflected shot from 25 yards out as the ball sailed into the top corner.
Motors are next in action against Longridge Town on the 19th March at the VanEupen Arena. The win taking Mick McGraa’s side to 7th in the NWCFL Premier Division.
