Noon sees Double

Vauxhall Motors 2 v 0 Sandbach United

A brace from Vauxhall’s top scorer Karl Noon proved to be more than enough for the injury-hit Motormen to secure yet another league double over visiting Sandbach United on Tuesday night at the Syncreon Arena.

Motors were always in the ascendancy in this game, postponed from the weekend, and went close on a couple of occasions before Noon struck a glorious 25-yarder on 20 minutes into the top left corner to give his side a deserved lead. United striker Danny Bartle wasted two decent half chances at the other end before the break on their rare attacks on the home goal. Motors also had two “goals” ruled off.

Eight minutes into the second half Motors doubled their advantage when half-ime substitute Tom Davies played the ball inside from the right flank, ans after the initial shot was blocked, Noon converted from ten yards out for his 20th goal of the season to give the hosts added breathing space.

Vauxhall substitutes Jay Harvey and Cameron McGregor both went close to adding to the tally, the latter hitting the top of the crossbar shortly after his introduction, but the result was never seriously in any doubt.

This latest victory took Mick McGraa’s side on to 73 points from just 28 fixtures, ten ahead of their nearest rivals FC Oswestry Town and still with a game in hand, as they moved closer to automatic promotion and the title in the NWCL Division One South.

Vauxhall: Crump, Mason, Heath, Carlin (Davies 46), Mitchell, Rule, Cross, Cooper, Cox (Harvey 61), Noon (McGregor 79), Gardner. Subs not used: Waring & Kelly.
