Motors on Cruise Control

Vauxhall Motors 3 v 0 West Didsbury & Chorlton

Mick McGraa’s side cruised to yet another victory on Tuesday night at the Syncreon Arena, as they put sixth-placed West Didsbury & Chorlton to the sword with three superbly taken goals, to record their 15th straight victory and their 20th league success from 21 outings dating back to the start of April!

Motors began brightly and it took them just 11 minutes to open their account, against a side who lost their manager just 48 hours previously. Joe Brandon found Haydn Cooper from the left and his exquisite lobbed pass toward the right fell beautifully for the inrushing Michael Burkey to fire home his ninth goal of this astonishing winning sequence.

The hosts then had another effort ruled out for offside before doubling their advantage on 36 minutes with another fine finish. Brandon again weaved his magic on the left before squaring perfectly for leading scorer Karl Noon to turn home from twelve yards out for his 13th goal of the campaign.

The Motormen continued to press after the interval and were always the more resourceful side throughout. And on 65 minutes they put the result beyond any doubt with a third. This time Brandon did all the spade work for himself as he cut in from the left before firing beyond Andy Jones in the visitors goal for a superb individual strike.

Ten minutes later, Burkey became the first Vauxhall player to be shown a straight red card this season, for what looked like a fair though strong challenge on his marker and further controversy followed towards the end when substitute Kieran Hamm was cynically brought down just outside the area but the offender only received a yellow card, when this offence looked far more worthy of a red.

This latest three points takes Motors four points clear of the second placed club but with three games still in hand on those nearest to them.

Vauxhall: Crump, Scarisbrick, Drummond, Gardner, Carlin, Heath, Brandon (Hamm 76), Rule, Noon (Cox 70), Cross, Burkey. Subs not used: Mason, Mitchell, Heath.
