New Mills 1 v 3 Vauxhall Motors

Mick McGraa’s side made it twelve wins on the bounce and ten of them have come on their travels!

But make no mistake about it, New Mills gave the Motormen a real test of character and belied their low ranking in the table, as the visitors came from behind to secure another three points.

The Millers began brightly and always looked dangerous, but the first real effort on goal came at the other end when a superb move ended with home keeper Dylan Forth saving well from Karl Noon. The hosts took the lead on 27 minutes, when a left wing cross was only partially dealt with and in his attempt to clean his line, Greg Drummond’s clearance was blocked and cannoned into the net via Motors keeper Ryan Crump.

It took Motors just five minutes to get back on terms. Michael Burkey saw his shot cannon off an upright and Ryan Cox was on hand to steer the ball home from close in. The Millers almost regained the lead through Shelton Payne but within ten minutes of the restart, Motors had grabbed the initiative with a second goal, when Burkey cut inside from the right before unleashing a great right foot shot into the far corner of the net.

Again Mills almost clawed that back when a swift turn and shot by Elliot Cooke was superbly tipped away from the top corner by Crump. But on 73 minutes, the game was effectively over when the Motormen made it 3-1. Burkey was again involved as he fed substitute Haydn Cooper in the inside right slot and he crossed to the far post where Cox applied the finishing touch.

Both Burkey and Cox have now scored seven apiece during this amazing winning sequence, which took Motors to within one point of the leaders FC Oswestry with three matches in hand.
