Vauxhall Motors turned in the best performance of the season to date to totally destroy Premier Division hosts Avro in Oldham on Saturday afternoon and make progress in the Macron Cup, where they will now meet high-flying Longridge Town next month, again away from home.

From the time the visitors took the lead after just 7 minutes, the contest was in their hands and they just went from strength to strength. The defence was solid as a rock, the midfield busy and creative and up front, they had a player who even outshone the rest of his teammates, as Michael Burkey torn the home side apart.

Following a corner on the right the ball broke for Joe Heath on the edge of the area and his fiercely struck goal-bound shot took a deflection on route to the net for the opener.

The Motormen doubled their advantage on 23 minutes, a beautifully created goal and arguably the best of the day.  Michael Burkey, who terrorised the hosts all afternoon, cut inside from the right, played in Karl Noon, who returned the pass for the wide player to finish in style from 12 yards.

It became 3-0 short after the interval, when Burkey again tormented the home defence before releasing a square pass to Noon to fire home, again from 12 yards out, for his tenth goal of the season.

On 63 minutes, Lewis Willingham got in on the scoring, when a partially cleared corner fell invitingly for the midfielder to smash home the fourth goal from ten yards.  Just four minutes later it was 5-0 as Burkey set up Joe Brandon to fire home from eight yards out and on 80 minutes, Burkey was upended inside the area, resulting in a penalty, which he took himself and converted with aplomb to crown a glorious display.
